Trout Bike to swim during Traverse City Film Festival

The Traverse City Film Festival will get a bit more awesome as Andy Rockwood’s famous trout bike will take to our streets and trails during tonight’s TC Rides. That’s a big deal, folks.

A former ArtPrize entry, “The Trout Bike is a 16 feet long by 5 feet high by 3 feet wide brook trout made of cardboard refrigerator boxes, paper mache’ and old lawn chair parts, mounted on a bicycle. It is painted in the vivid colors and patterns of our native brook trout, using leftover house paint. It has a fully articulated body which “swims” convincingly. The rider crawls into the body of the trout, sits on the bicycle seat and grasps the handle bars, head protruding through a hole in the top of the fish, just forward of the dorsal fin. The trout bike can be pedaled and swerved to imitate a fish and delight people.”

TC RIDES is Traverse City’s weekly, chit chatty, very short and very slow, summertime, community bicycle ride. Its goal is to create awareness for the growing presence of people on bikes in Traverse City.

Norte! uses the power of the bicycle to build community, promote an active lifestyle, meet new neighbors and have FUN!

Happy, smiley people on bicycles creates more happy, smiley people on bicycles. It’s infectious. So simple. So awesome.

We ride each and every Wednesday evening through the summer. It begins at F&M Park and finishes at The Little Fleet for beverages and Food Truck eats.

Meet at 5:45. Rolling at 6.

The TC RIDES route:

Boardman Lake. 6 different neighborhoods. The Open Space. Beautiful West Bay. Clinch Park.

Maybe the most lovely 5 urban miles ever. We’ll be riding the same loop each Wednesday so feel free to hop in wherever you’d like.
