More Girls On Bikes in Traverse City + 5 Ways You Can Help
Ever since we started four years ago, there has been a big gender gap in our programs.
Let’s change that.
Because more girls on bikes = more happy, healthy, strong girls = a more awesome world.
Facebook has a super cool thing going for Giving Tuesday. Tomorrow, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will be matching up to $2 million of funds raised on Facebook for US nonprofits. Facebook is also waiving all fees for donations.
This year, 100% of our #GivingTuesday donations will go to help get more girls involved in our mountain bike and bike safety programs. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to invest in 4 race ready mountain bikes to loan out to girls without bikes and 20 scholarships for our after school mountain bike program and bike safety summer camp.
Donations tomorrow should be made HERE.
We’re also inviting our supporters to create a fundraiser on their FB page on behalf of the Norte to help us get more girls on bikes. Learn how to do that HERE.
Not a Facebook fan? Please give online HERE.
2. A LITTLE FLEET DANCE PARTY!
Our friends at The Little Fleet are hosting an all ages Giving Tuesday dance party tomorrow night 5-7P. 100% of proceeds will go to support our more girls on bikes campaign and a super mom will match the first $1,000 donated at the party. Awesome, right!? Boys invited too, of course. Don’t miss it!
3. BECOME A MOUNTAIN BIKE COACH
No offense to football, soccer or track but there’s magic to be found in our northern Michigan woods. Our after school program for young mountain bikers in Traverse City is made up of a group of stellar elementary, middle and high school students. The team’s goal is to unleash confidence through FUN! while also empowering young people to be independent, strong and gritty to help them overcome obstacles both on and off their bikes. We NEED more women coaches. Get involved HERE.
4. BECOME A CLUBHOUSE MENTOR
Are you an awesome lady with decent bike repair and maintenance skills and enjoy sharing that knowledge with young women? We need you!
Our kind, energetic and generous mentors are the heart and soul of the Traverse City Community Bicycle Shop at the Norte Clubhouse. Mentors not only answer questions and provide guidance for Clubhouse members during Open Shop hours but also teach basic bike repair and maintenance to our young apprentices as part of our Liderato program.
Mentors “work” 2 hour shifts and are repaid with heaps and heaps of praise and highfives. Usually some snacks, too. Apply HERE.
5. ENCOURAGE GIRLS TO GET INVOLVED
