Here’s to the young ones 👍! Yesterday, across northern Michigan, they shed the vibes of summer vacation and boldly stepped into the school year. It was the first day with a new teacher, a new school, and new friends. It’s courageous. We applaud them, and we’re here for them. And you.

Here are five ways to keep a little summer vacation in their step.

1. Walktastic Wednesdays — We encourage everyone to pick at least one day a week (why not Wednesday!) to add a walk or roll to their morning commute. Pick a spot to park and stroll if you don’t live close enough. A short morning walk (or roll) gets the body going and improves concentration.

2. Bike Trains — There’s no better way to keep moving and connected than joining friends in a bike train. We know Eastern Elementary has the well-established EEE-Train, and maybe it’s your school’s turn to create an express. Need help pulling it together? Let us know, and we can help with a route and connect you to others.

3. Walk & Roll to School Day — Join thousands across North America and hundreds in northern Michigan on Wednesday, October 12, for the international Walk & Roll to School Day. Register early to help your school win top honors.

4. Adventure Bike Club — Our original after-school program builds confidence while exploring neighborhoods and parks, and learning to navigate the community. The program starts September 19, with spots left at Central Grade, the Wheelhouse, and Suttons Bay.

5. Mountain Bike with Norte — Keep them moving after school by hitting the trails on mountain bikes. The season starts this Monday, September 12, so hurry to grab your spot. Limited openings remain at the Wheelhouse, Palmer Woods, Timber Ridge, VASA at Bartlett, and our Westside Adventure.
That’s only five. How many more ways can we think of to put a pep in our steps and roll, roll, roll? Perhaps you have an idea — how can we keep northern Michigan moving and connected?

Is your child’s school ready for some new walk & roll energy? Reach out, and let’s get started. As we return to a more normal, non-pandemic schedule, we need Walk & Roll Ambassadors to invigorate our Safe Routes to School program. Are you ready?

We don’t spam, and we don’t share your contact info. However, we get excited about the fantastic people, places, and activities in Northern Michigan.
