Summer Bike Camp Coach

We need coaches for our after-school Summer Bike Camp — ready to join?

The ideal candidate is passionate about happy, healthy, strong communities and active-for-life kids. This position is seasonal, June-August, and will report to Norte’s Program and Education Director. 

Coaches work with the rest of Norte’s remarkable Team Orange (i.e., full-time, part-time, and volunteers). Coaches are essential to what we do. Summer Bike Camp Coaches build confidence via challenges and adventure across the Grand Traverse region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow program needs as described in the coach’s manual.
  • Come to work ready to model happy, healthy, strong to our young riders.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

  • Your riders have fun while building confidence and learning mad bike skills.
  • The team rides safe at all times, on trails and streets.
  • Responsibilities and tasks are completed on time and thoroughly.
  • Written communication is clear, professional, and in line with Norte’s expectations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Exhibit a passion for bicycles and professionalism, with superior social skills and an ability to engage, encourage, and communicate with youth participants and their families.
  • Demonstrate experienced cycling skills and be knowledgeable about urban riding skills, local bike routes, and basic bicycle repair.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and creativity to make any situation a fun learning experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Be able to ride 8-14 miles on streets and trails.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

HOURS

Summer Bike Camps are daily, Monday–Friday, 9 am-1 pm. Coaches need to be on-site and ready at 8:30 am and available until 1:15 pm.

COMPENSATION

Norte Summer Bike Camp coaching is a part-time, temporary (four months or less) position. Therefore, it is exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements. Compensation is $20/hour. Camp sessions run weekly throughout the summer depending on location. Possible locations include communities in Traverse City and Kalkaska, Antrim, and Leelanau Counties.
