Bike and Roll to School Day

Northern Michigan joins the country on May 4 for Bike and Roll to School Day. Bike and Roll to School Day encourages, inspires, and empowers ever-increasing numbers of students to safely walk, bike, or roll to school by being active through whatever means they choose. As part of the celebration in northern Michigan, we will crown the school with the most participation with the Most Bike-tastic award.

1. Commit to riding your bike to school Wednesday, May 4. All schools in northern Michigan are welcome to participate.

2. Create a Team. Tell your friends, teacher, principal, and lunch lady about Bike and Roll To School Day. Encourage them to join your team and to commit as well.

3. The Most Bike-tastic competition. This is a big deal. We take it extremely seriously. Send us your picture with your school colors, and we need to see the math: We’ll take the number of students and staff who bike to school and divide by the total students and staff at your school — multiply that number by 100, and that’s your school’s Bike-tastic score. The highest score wins bragging rights for the entire year and a sweet trophy to show off. Last year’s winner: Pathfinder.

4. Roll with It. Hop on your bike and pedal to school with friends on the big day. If you need an introduction to a bike train near you, give us a shout at

You can register your school on the national Safe Routes to School page if you’re a principal or teacher.
