Norte’s Youth Mountain Bike Team

Registration for the fall 2022 season is now closed.

Norte’s Youth Mountain Bike Team gives elementary, middle, and high school students an opportunity to hit the trails of northern Michigan with experienced coaches and new friends. We unleash confidence, strengthen courage, and empower young people to be independent, strong, and gritty — yes, we get a little dirty mountain biking!

What’s required? All riders must possess a positive attitude and an ability to ride comfortably ride 3-4 miles (1st-5th grade) or 8-15 miles (6th-12th grade).

Mountain Bike Team is broken into three divisions:

  • Grade 1-5 Farm Team is a great opportunity to learn mountain bike fundamentals and build confidence as a rider.
  • Grade 6-12 Team offers a range of experiences, from recreational to advanced skills. Participants are sorted into Race and Rally Teams according to experience, skill and preferred ride type.

Please note days, times and locations when registering on Active. Teams meet at the following locations:

  • Timber Ridge
  • Civic Center Wheelhouse
  • Westside Adventure
  • VASA Bartlett

  • Palmer Woods
  • Glacial Hills
  • Nubs Nob
  • Boyne Mountain
  • Maplehurst Natural Area

Westwoods Farm Team is expanding into new territory with Westside Adventure! This season, teams will meet and ride at three different trailheads over the course of the season: Westwoods, Lost Lake Pathway, and Lake Ann Pathway. This variety gives them a chance to explore a variety of new terrain. Westside coaches will inform parents of the trail for each week.

Thanks to our generous donors and sponsors, Norte is proud to provide youth scholarships to ensure that all families can participate in our programs. We encourage families to apply for scholarships prior to registering at Scholarship Application.

No bike? No problem.

Thanks to generous donations, our program bike library has riders covered if they need a mountain bike for the program. For information on bikes or scholarships, please email

We use Active Network for registration. If you previously participated in a Norte program, you already have an account created. Sign in at the top of the registration page, or enter your email address username when prompted — no need to create a new family account for participation.

This short, how-to video helps walk you through the registration process, including how to sign up for a waitlist if a preferred session is full.

We need paid coaches and volunteer assistant coaches for all of our bike programs, including ABC.

Norte’s rides light rain, so please pack a rain layer for your child. However, when it rains heavy it can not only be miserable and dangerous, it can also damage the trails. For Mountain Bike Team, cancellations are determined separately for each trailhead. Predicting the weather in northern Michigan is frustrating, so we ask for your patience and flexibility. If the local weather app shows a 50% or greater chance of heavy rain, then your coach will cancel your team practice via group text with their team families. Makeup days are not guaranteed, but your coach will make their best effort to make up for the missed time. No refunds are issued due to weather.

Thank you!
