Norte Youth Mountain Bike Team Frequently Asked Questions

Adding open or waitlisted sessions to an order in Active Network Registration.

Easiest explained in a short video. If there are many session options, like in Summer Bike Camps, the button to click to add a session to the cart is buried deep in the page. This is the same process for adding waitlisted sessions or open sessions.

How do waitlists work?

If a session fills, the participant will have the option to register on the “waitlist only,” which will hold their place in line if a registered participant cancels or transfers.

There is no charge to be on the waitlist. If a spot opens, Norte will contact the waitlisted participants. Once your child transfers out of the waitlist, then the registration fee will be due at that time.

Families cannot access the waitlists to remove or transfer their children. Please contact to help with this process.

How do I pay my registration fee after moving in from the waitlist?

Log into your Active Network account by clicking on the SIGN IN link on the top right corner and use your username/email address and password. Then go to MANAGE MY PROGRAMS to access your orders and balances.

Can the portion of my cancellation refund be applied as a credit for future Norte programs?

Yes. Your credit balance can be used for any Norte program or event. Your program credit will be tied to your account only and is nontransferable—don’t lose track of your account!

The $10 fee if you cancel your registration with more than 4 weeks’ notice (according to our cancellation policy) is non-refundable.

My kid is “fast,” can he/she move up to faster teams?

Yes. We organize our youth mountain bike teams by ability and buddy requests. The teams will stay somewhat fluid throughout the season so that young riders may move around to a team with kids of closer abilities.

My child has another sports practice at 5 pm. Can you tell me where you’re going to be then so I can come to pick him/her up?

No. Our coaches don’t have the capacity to coordinate early or special pickups. However, we do keep strict back to trailhead schedules.

Can my kid be on the same team as their buddy?

That sounds like fun! Yes, there is a line on the registration form where you can add the buddies. Can’t guarantee it, but we’ll try to make it happen. Remember that practice location, practice days, and riding abilities should all align for this to work.

My kid has sports practice on Tuesdays that conflicts with mountain bike practice. Can he/she just come to mountain bike only once a week?

Yes, but the registration fee will remain the same.

Will there be snacks at practice?

We will not provide team snacks during the COVID-19 pandemic. A large group of kids eating together is not supported by current public health guidelines.

Will you start and end practice on time?

Yes! Our practice season is very short, so we want to make every minute count!

Check your registration confirmation for the specific start and finish time for your practice location. Please be ready to roll by the start time.

Who should I contact if I’m going to be late or absent?

Please contact your coach directly. Your child’s coach will provide their cell phone number once practice begins.

What happens when it rains?

We will ride in light rain, so please pack a rain layer for your child.

The more challenging part is that we cancel for heavier rains, and cancellations are determined separately for each trailhead. Predicting the weather in Northern Michigan is frustrating, so we ask for your patience and flexibility. If the local weather app shows a 50% or greater chance of heavy rain, then your coach will cancel your team practice via group text with their team families.

Makeup days are not guaranteed, but your coach will make their best effort to make up for the missed time.

How do I get program-wide notifications from the Remind App?

Norte will email everyone instructions to join before practice starts.

What are we practicing for?

Mostly for life! Because bikes are for life, of course. But we’re also getting ready for many local mountain bike races, including the Iceman, Bearclaw Epic, Peak 2 Peak, Racing For Home, and others.

Norte works hard to secure race registration discounts for team riders.

This year the code for the Norte Riders is NORTE2021.  It’s good for $35 off which every race the rider chooses, making the Iceman $35 for juniors and Slush Cup $15.

What about COVID-19 precautions?

We are ever thankful for the precautions throughout the last year that have helped keep our staff, riders, and families healthy. We continue to encourage that anyone eligible and able to vaccinate themselves against COVID-19. In addition, we will monitor the recommended policies by public health officials and, with each new season, evaluate precautions above and beyond our ongoing commitment to healthy habits and hygiene.
