MeetUps for the Deaf Community

Norte MeetUps for the Deaf Community are back for the summer. All Norte MeetUps begin with introductions and then roll into a comfortable, slow roll on bicycles. This summer, come join us beginning Saturday, May 15, followed by every third Saturday through August. All MeetUps for the Deaf Community start at 11 am and last until noon.

Please meet at Norte’s Clubhouse, which is located at the south entrance to the Grand Traverse County Civic Center off of Titus St. If anyone needs a bike, we have a bunch in there to borrow.

WHO IS INVITED?

We invite anyone hard of hearing, families of Deaf children, CODAS (Children of Deaf adults), SODAs (siblings of Deaf adults), and friends and interpreters of the Deaf to join us.

If you have a bike, certainly bring it. Otherwise, we have bikes we can loan out for the meetup, including adaptive bikes. If it’s been years since you’ve ridden a bicycle or have never ridden one, that’s okay– we have you covered and can help.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) strongly recommends continued effort to stop the spread. The following steps need to be taken together for the best protection.
  • Health Check – Self-monitor and stay home if you’re feeling sick.
  • Wear a mask – Take it off when you eat or drink, then put it back on, even outside.
  • Physically Distanced – Keep six feet apart as much as you can.
  • Wash Hands – Wash hands regularly. 20 seconds with soap and water.

Norte also supports socializing outside in well-ventilated areas and getting a vaccine as soon as available.  If we all work together, we will beat this pandemic.

The National Association of the Deaf offers more comprehensive recommendations for keeping the Deaf Community safe during the pandemic. We will continue to monitor their recommendations.

See you soon!
