Happy, Healthy, Ready-to-Learn: A Systems Practice Report + Community Conversation at the Library

Awesome news! The Michigan Department of Transportation has conditionally approved a $2 million Safe Routes To School grant. This features nearly FIVE MILES of new sidewalks, bike lanes, trail connections and improved intersections around TC’s ten in-town schools. It’s scheduled for completion in 2020.

In advance of that, Norte has been working hard to make sure our kids make good use of this new “social infrastructure.”

With generous support from Rotary Charities, we’ve convened a systems thinking course with our school partners to gain a better understanding of the complex issues that either inhibit or empower kids to actively get themselves to school in Traverse City. Even if that involves just a short walk – our goal is to reduce the congestion of car lines, make the commute to school safer, more convenient (and yes, even fun!).

Here’s your chance to share your ideas. Join representatives from the City of Traverse City, Norte, TCAPS, TBAISD, GTACS, Trinity Lutheran and TART Trails for a community conversation about happy, healthy, ready-to-learn kids and the system that supports them.

Light refreshments will be served.
