Norte TuneUp at the Senior Center

To celebrate Northern Michigan Bike Month and help more seniors get back rolling this summer, we’re partnering with the Grand Traverse County Senior Center Network for our second Norte TuneUp. For Norte TuneUps, we set up mobile bike stands, tents and see how many bikes we can help get rolling a little easier. We fixed up or gave away nearly three-dozen bikes for residents at Carson Square Apartments for our first effort.

If you’re a senior center member and have a bike that could use some care, plan on bringing it down to the Senior Center on May 22, 2020, from 9 am-1 pm. Norte mechanics will get you rolling a little smoother or help diagnose the problem if it’s a little more serious.

Our goal is to make as many bikes as possible safer and more rideable. From there, we trust we’ll see more people out riding this summer.

See you at the Senior Center

Precautions: As Norte continues to do its part to #stopthespread of COVID-19, we ask all of our volunteers to arrive with masks and wear them throughout the Norte TuneUp. We also ask that we maintain social distancing recommendations as much as possible.

WHY NORTE TUNEUP?

Norte is for happy, healthy, strong communities. We believe that the humble bicycle is still the best mode of active transportation. The bike empowers folks from all walks of life to maintain health, independence, and gain confidence. Indeed, bicycles have been bringing people together and promoting freedom for almost 200 years.

If you’re interested in learning more, shoot us an email. We’re always looking for additional bike mechanic volunteers and ideas for communities that could use extra help with bike tune-ups. If you’d like to contribute to the purchase of supplies and support a future Norte TuenUp, let us know.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) strongly recommends continued effort to stop the spread. The following steps need to be taken together for the best protection.
  • Health Check – Self-monitor and stay home if you’re feeling sick.
  • Wear a mask – Take it off when you eat or drink, then put it back on, even outside.
  • Physically Distanced – Keep six feet apart as much as you can.
  • Wash Hands – Wash hands regularly. 20 seconds with soap and water.

Norte also supports socializing outside in well-ventilated areas and getting a vaccine as soon as available.  If we all work together, we will beat this pandemic.
