Let’s Walk and Grade Garfield Avenue
Norte’s Neighborhood Pro Walk/Pro Bike Advocacy program is hosting a walking audit of Garfield Avenue on June 27, 2019 July 18, 2019 (this event was rescheduled due to construction on Garfield Avenue). We’d love to have you join us! If you’re interested, please RSVP the Advocacy Director at Gary@elgruponorte.org. Gary can also answer questions you might have.
Why Garfield? Why now?
In the next few years, the City of Traverse City will resurface the section of Garfield Ave. between Hannah Ave. and East Front St. As well, The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) plans to reconstruct the intersection at Peninsula Drive. A walking audit is an opportunity to document the conditions and advocate for safer sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, traffic calming, and other elements of a complete street.

What is a Walking Audit?

A walking audit is an all feet on the ground, clipboards in hand walking assessment of a street. This audit will begin at Bryant Park and walk the 3/4 of a mile to Hannah Avenue. Norte will provide an introduction, instructions, and checklists to guide our audit. We will walk as a group to provide opportunities for discussion and learning. City engineering staff and MDOT representatives will walk with us.
