Every year, millions of spectators, fans, sponsors, and organizers look forward to July. After all, it was then that a significant event took place – a multi-day road cycling race. The race is considered one of the three components of the Grand Tour. It has been going on for over a century.
Historical perspective
The road cycling contest was organized at the beginning of the 20th century. Initially, the event was declared as an advertising project. It became the main competitor of the Paris-Brest-Paris contest.
The event has usually been organized since 1903 in France and neighboring countries in the first three weeks of July. In the entire history of the race, it was only during the two world wars that it was canceled.
“Big Loop” or the second name of the cycling event
Any cycling race consists of stages. The Tour has 21 stages. Stage 1 – 1 day. In order for the time and points to be recorded correctly, the athlete must complete the stage. The tour is called the “big loop”. This name has taken root because of the huge distance.
The length is from 3000 to 4000 km. There is no fixed distance because the length changes a little every year. In 1926, the distance was a record – 5745 km. The winner of the cycling race is selected based on the results of the overall standings in the stages.
The winners are ranked in the universal cycling ranking. And also at the end of the Contest, many nominations are chosen – the best sprinter, mountain sportsman, and young rider.

In 2022, the 109th season of cycling events took place. It was very bright and gorgeous. Adrenaline is over the top because the fight was for survival. Many teams from different regions attended the championship.
